Song structure

Song structure is the order of sections in a piece, such as intro, verse, chorus and bridge.

Most popular songs use a verse–chorus form: verses tell the story, the chorus repeats the main hook. Common additions are a pre-chorus that builds tension, a bridge for contrast and an outro.

Electronic tracks often follow intro, build, drop, breakdown, build, drop. Classical forms include sonata form, rondo and theme and variations. Jazz tunes usually state the head, take solos and return to the head.
