Music bed

A music bed is background music designed to sit underneath speech without competing with it.

Beds are used in podcasts, ads, explainers and documentaries. They tend to have steady dynamics, little or no lead melody and a frequency balance that leaves the midrange open for the voice.

In mixing, beds are usually ducked further whenever someone speaks, using automation or sidechain compression.

Using it in a prompt

Say "background bed for narration, no lead melody, even dynamics" to get something that will not fight a voice.
