Delay (echo)

Delay repeats a sound after a set time, creating echoes that can be rhythmic or atmospheric.

A delay can be timed to the tempo, for example a dotted-eighth delay that creates a galloping pattern, a signature of some rock guitarists. Tape delays add warmth and wobble, and dub reggae producers turned delay into an instrument by manipulating it live.

Short delays of a few milliseconds thicken a sound; long delays create space and repetition.

Using it in a prompt

Ask for "dub-style echoes", "tempo-synced delay on the lead" or "tape echo" depending on the character you want.
