Polyrhythm

A polyrhythm is two or more conflicting rhythms played at the same time, such as three against two.

When one part divides a span into three beats and another into two, the result is a 3:2 polyrhythm. These layers are fundamental to many West African and Afro-Cuban traditions and appear in jazz, progressive rock and electronic music.

Polyrhythms create a sense of motion and complexity even when each individual part is simple.

Using it in a prompt

Ask for "layered polyrhythmic percussion" for Afro-inspired grooves or "3 against 2 pattern in the hand drums" for something specific.
